Parasshinikadav Muthappan Temple is one of the famous temples in North Kerala. This holy temple is situated on the banks of Valapatnam river. This river flows through many temples like the famous Kottiur temple. Hence this river is considered as holy river. The main deity of the temple is Sri Muthappan.

Parasshinikadav Muthappan family members perform the main pujas. Shri Muthappan always keeps a bow and arrow in hand. All the places where Grandfather is worshiped are known as Patapura. Many stories exist related to the legend of Muthappan. It is believed that Parikutty Bhagwati was the adoptive mother of Grandpa. Parukutty was the wife of Ayantharavazhi, a villager.

They were not blessed with children for many years. Parukutty was a Shiva Bhakti in the Paiyavur temple. He visited the temple daily. One day Lord Shiva appeared in his sleep and said that all your troubles will go away and that I have blessed you. The next day Parukutti went to bathe and saw a basket floating on a green coconut tree.

He came to Parikutty and saw a boy in a basket from knocking on a stone. Parukutti took the boy to the palace due to his mother’s birthday. The husband also accepted the child as his own son. They considered the child as a treasure given by God. He tried to teach the boy about the puja rituals according to Brahmin rules but he was not interested in it. Then watch the video to know.
